The ubiquitous tuk-tuk (shown here) provides transport to many in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. The tuk-tuk driver can be seen in the rearview mirror.
Motorized bikes (motos) also provide transport: the drivers attach a doorless, windowless, seated cart to their motos and offer rides for exorbitant prices.
While the tuk-tuk travels considerably slower than the moto, I can't help but feel safer while seated in the tuk-tuk. Maybe the increased number of wheels provides a false sense of security. Once our group of seven fit into a single tuk-tuk. The looks we received from the locals were priceless. |

In Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, people on motorized bikes (or motos) speed with such ferocity that you fear for your life more than a few times a day. Sometimes you circle the block in hopes of finding a more opportune corner from which to cross. This usually doesn't happen. So, you hold your breath, look straight ahead, and pray not to become flattened. You cross. Next thing you know, you're on the other side of the street, in one piece. Victory.
There are two men in this photo: one speeding along on his moto and the other sitting leisurely in his lawn chair. Maybe the seated man is just reading his book, waiting for traffic to die down. I happen to like how he's barefoot. |

Dreaming …. we were butterflies all of us, or perhaps just fluttering souls.
After too long a time of waiting for change, for someone to rescue us.
We grow impatient. Blossoming anyway. We’ll show them.
But wanting it is not enough.
We know now.
We learn.
We grow.
Struggling in our tiny worlds wrapped tight and alone.
Time seems to stand still.
But then it flies by.
We thought we dreamed of salvation while we slumbered
but at last we realized, we became aware,
we finally awakened …. and suddenly knew.
What we needed was all our own creation.
